SYNOPSIS
Five friends buy a huge half-finished brutalist mansion in the middle of nowhere, overlooking dense forest. Due to the mansion's dark, questionable history, the project is a steal, promising to fulfil each of the housemates yearning for the dream home.
As the desire for domestic consumption escalates, the house mates find their friendship tested and their jet-set lifestyle threatened as a random series of murders occur at their avant-garde home. But with every death, the house regenerates into a new luxurious style. With each death comes perfection.
With suspicions high and trust divided, the seemingly innocent friends juggle murder, mixers and interior design.
THEMES
The Cost of Perfection
The relentless pursuit of an ideal—whether material, aesthetic, or personal—leads to self-destruction and moral compromise.
Materialism & Greed
A critique of society’s obsession with wealth and luxury, highlighting the emptiness and corruption that lie beneath the surface of consumerist dreams.
The Fragility of Friendship
How ambition, mistrust, and selfishness erode relationships, revealing the darker sides of human nature when survival and success are at stake.
Human Complicity in Evil
The interplay between supernatural forces and human agency, showing how greed and desire make people active participants in their own downfall.
TONE
Dark Comedy with a Satirical Edge
Sharp, biting humour underpins the story, mocking societal obsessions with luxury, status, and perfection, even as the events spiral into chaos and horror.
Stylized Absurdism
The film balances its darker moments with surreal, visually striking scenes—such as the house’s eerie regenerations—blurring the line between reality and the grotesque.
Tragic Ambiguity
The tone shifts from absurd and ironic to deeply unsettling and melancholic, culminating in a bittersweet, haunting finale that leaves the audience questioning the cost of liberation and survival.
Psychological Horror
Intensity builds dread and paranoia, using the house as an oppressive sentient force to amplify the characters' unravelling psyches
STYLE
The aesthetic style of the film should reflect its darkly satirical tone and the themes of ambition, isolation, and corruption. Here's a breakdown of its visual and design elements:
Brutalist Architecture as a Symbol of Oppression
The house itself should be a striking, almost alien presence—cold, monolithic concrete structures with sharp angles and vast, empty spaces. Its stark, imposing design mirrors the emotional isolation and moral decay of the characters.
Decay Meets Opulence
As the house regenerates, its style should evolve into increasingly lavish, surreal interpretations of luxury—ornate baroque flourishes, excessive gold detailing, or hyper-modern minimalism. The evolving aesthetics serve as a grotesque reflection of the characters’ escalating greed and moral compromises.
Natural World vs. Artificial World
The surrounding dense forest contrasts sharply with the sterile, controlled environment of the house. Shots of the forest should feel alive and chaotic, emphasizing the house’s artificiality and the characters’ detachment from reality.
Colour Palette
A muted base palette of greys, concrete tones, and dark greens for the natural setting, with sudden bursts of unsettling colour (blood reds, golds, and icy whites) as the house regenerates and the murders escalate.
Glamorous Costumes with a Distorted Edge
The housemates’ fashion evolves with the house—trendy, high-end attire becomes exaggerated and grotesque over time, reflecting their internal transformations. From 1960s Jet-Set, altering into something much more baroque grandeur and coquette-meets-renaissance-faire.
This aesthetic style grounds the film in an atmosphere that is both visually striking and deeply symbolic, making the house and its world feel like characters in their own right.
